Children’s Books and Big Dreaming

We read to our daughter every night and sporadically throughout the day. She LOVES to read! If there is anything we’ve done right by her it will be nurturing her love of books. Of all the books that have been read over the last two years, there have been so many "Dream Big"-type books. You know the ones: “reach for the stars”, “there’s nothing you can’t do!” kind of books. It makes my parental heart flutter and my eyes well up with hopeful tears. It also made me take pause one night after she went to bed. I’m not even sure I remember what my little big dreams used to be. And, of course, like everything else in our lives, dreams, passions, and hobbies ebb and flow like the incoming and outgoing tides. Shorter lived when you are younger, longer lasting the older you get.

So, naturally, after feeling like my big dreaming days were numbered I dove head first into my inspiration safe guards. Last time I mentioned that in my mom downtime I use Pinterest and Instagram to save inspiration. I started to dig deep into the archives of ten years worth of pins and boards titled “calling all crafters” and “threads” (clothes inspiration) and “waterhole” (pool inspiration). Like I said, these are my “one day somedays”. And as I looked further and further back I realized those “big dreams” are still there. It’s just that now they are more realistic and a little more grown up. The little big dreams you dream as a little kid never disappear. They just change. Sometimes for better but never for the worse. Because a dream you dream is always good and always magical to its creator.

So the moral of the story: never give up hope on your dreams no matter how big or small or old or new they are. I’m still dreaming here in my blog, on Instagram, in my hundreds of Pinterest boards, in my sketchbook. And, believe it or not, in my very own kiddo's children’s books. I’ll leave you with some quotes from one of the biggest dreamers, Walt Disney:

“ All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.”

“ If you can dream, you can do it.”

“ We keep moving forward, opening new doors and doing new things, because we are curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.”

“ First, think. Second, dream. Third, believe. And finally, dare.”
